Rezai, Parra Santonja advance in Bastad

07/05/2010 - Bastad, Sweden (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Seeded women Aravane Rezai of France and Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain were among Monday's first-round winners at the $220,000 Swedish Open.

The second-seeded Rezai got past American Lilia Osterloh 6-4, 6-2, while a fifth-seeded Parra Santonja subdued surprise Wimbledon quarterfinalist Kaia Kanepi 6-4, 7-5. The Estonian Kanepi reached her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal at the All England Club last week.

Other Day-1 winners on the red clay at Bastad Tennis Stadium were Czech Renata Voracova, German Tatjana Malek, Uzbekistan's Akgul Amanmuradova, and Croat Karolina Sprem. Voracova topped Sweden's Johanna Larsson 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

This week's top seed is Italian Flavia Pennetta. Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez upset Dane Caroline Wozniacki in last year's finale here, but both women are skipping this year's event.

The 2010 Bastad titlist will claim $37,000.
