12/30/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The amazing Boston Bruins will aim for their first nine- game winning streak in over a quarter of a century when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins for tonight's battle at Mellon Arena. This is the first test of a home-and-home series as the clubs will meet again Thursday in Boston.

The Bruins are leading the Eastern Conference with 58 points and are currently 14 points ahead of Montreal for first place in the Northeast Division. The franchise has won eight in a row for the first time since the 1992-93 season and tonight will try for its first nine-game winning streak since January 8-29, 1983.

In addition to winning eight straight Boston has taken 13 of 14 contests and is 22-2-1 in its last 25 games.

The Bruins picked up their most-recent win Sunday in Atlanta as Michael Ryder scored the game-winning goal with 6:04 to play to lift his club to the 2-1 decision at Philips Arena. It was the closest win for Boston during its current winning streak as the club had won by at least two goals in their previous seven outings.

Phil Kessel scored the other goal while Manny Fernandez stopped 32 shots for the Bruins.

David Krejci notched an assist to extend his point streak to eight games -- the longest current stretch in the NHL. Krejci, who has also recorded points in 17 of 18 games, has five goals and 10 assists during his streak.

Tonight marks the end of a five-game road trip for Boston and is also the club's final game of the 2008 calendar year. The Bruins are 14-4-3 as the visitor this year and have won five straight and seven of their last eight road games.

Following tonight's test, the Bruins will return to Beantown for a six-game homestand, beginning with the New Year's Day matchup with the Penguins.

Pittsburgh will try to cap an up-and-down month with a win tonight, as the club heads into its final game of 2008 with a 5-7-1 December record.

The Penguins last played Saturday against visiting Montreal and were handed a 3-2 setback as Andrei Kostitsyn registered his first career hat trick to lift the Canadiens to the win.

Sidney Crosby and Pascal Dupuis scored for Pittsburgh. Dupuis also assisted on Crosby's marker while Marc-Andre Fleury allowed the three scores on just 19 shots.

Pittsburgh is now 8-7-2 as the host this season and has dropped three straight and four of five at the Igloo.

The Penguins beat Boston in a shootout when these clubs met back on October 20 and Pittsburgh has taken five of the last seven meetings in the series. However, the Bruins have posted wins in five of their previous seven stops in the Steel City.
